day 4, jun 12th – Dublin, Ireland

Off to Ireland! Our drive from Belfast unexpectedly turned into a scenic journey when we realized all of the toll toads just outside Dublin were in euros and we only had British pounds to our name. With Marshall as the driver and me as the navigator, we had to look into an alternate route to avoid the tolls. Let’s just say that my navigation skills are not my strength. Marshall joked that my next grant application should be for a map-reading expedition.

Rain, rain, go away! Not too many pictures to share for the day since it was pouring rain the entire time. We toured Trinity College with a student tour guide who told us all about the history, fun stories and current updates on the school. It was kinda cute to hear Marshall listen to the guide and then turn to me and say, “Did you know that?” It’s not every day that you go on college tours as a grown-up. We visited the old Berkley library and Book of Kells, lavishly illustrated manuscripts of the four gospels created in the late 800′s. That afternoon, we walked along Grafton Street, got some bad Irish food for lunch (I think the UK is obsessed with potatoes), and then drove around the Temple Bar and Guinness Brewery area. Quite thankful for my raincoat today!

Lots of rain!
