day 4, dec 20th

Today was a day trip to Montreux, Switzerland, a town at the foot of the Alps and only just an hour drive from Geneva. All along the drive, we had gorgeous views of Lake Geneva and the Swiss vineyards. Once in Montreux, we visited Chillon Castle, a 12th century castle. We enjoyed learning the history and seeing all of it- from the jail, the courtyards, the rooms, to the tower keep with wonderful views of the lake and mountains. After our tour, we walked along the waterfront of Mountreux to enjoy the Christmas Market. It was just liked something you would imagine in a movie- booth after booth of crafts, gifts and chocolates. Who needs a traditional lunch when you can have chocolate crepes and Swiss Mac and cheese? That night, we had dinner at Ellena’s favorite fondue place and a restaurant that was highly recommended to me by another AIS teacher, Bain de Paquis. It was like a dock house along the lake, warm and cozy with tons of people, and lots of cheese fondue! The waiters were running pots of cheese every minute to tables full of people. Lovely dinner and memories with Ellena and Brian (congratulations to them on their Christmas Day engagement!).
