day 1, dec 17th

Marshall and I were so excited about our Christmas trip to Geneva, Rome, Lisbon, and Madrid. We were even more excited that Marshall was well enough to travel- he was in bed with the flu for the week leading up to our trip. Luckily, he woke up that Thursday morning ready and able to go!

Along the way, I kept notes from each of our destinations and have also posted those with some of our favorite pics. Hope you enjoy! Happy New Year! Love, Lori and Marshall

Of course are trip didn’t get started without a little of Marshall’s bad travel luck, something he is famous for! Our departing flight from Atlanta was delayed three hours making us a little nervous about whether we were going to make our connecting flight in Paris. Luckily the snow storms throughout western Europe and the UK delayed our connecting flight, so we were golden to arrive in Geneva today at 4pm. In Geneva, we’re staying with our friends Ellena and Brian. Ellena was one of my first friends at Atlanta International School. She left AIS four years ago and started teaching geography at the International School of Geneva and now is Head of Humanities. Brian is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio and works for the United Nations in Geneva. Ellena met us at the airport and then we took a short bus ride to their house. Ellena and Brian use public transport, bikes, and their good ole’ walking shoes to get around town. Geneva seems like such an easy town to navigate with reliable buses and trams and pretty scenery along the way. We arrived at their house- such a cute house which happened to be covered in snow and looked straight out of the movie, “The Holiday”, with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. Ellena and Brian’s flat is on the top floor where they also have a loft area for guests to stay. Knowing that we would be a little exhausted after traveling for about 14 hours, we were happy that Ellena and Brian had planned for us to spend the evening catching up over dinner at their house. Extremely popular in the winters in Geneva, Ellena cooked an excellent cheese fondue- Lori’s first! Dinner was shortly followed by an early bedtime for us.
