day 1, jun 9th – Cambridge, England

Our trip began with a flight to Boston and then a connecting flight to London- Heathrow. I don’t think that I’ve ever gone on a trip this long with just one carry on. Needless to say, I was impressed that I still managed to fit three pairs of shoes in my backpack! Upon arriving in London we jumped on a three hour scenic bus ride to Cambridge, England. Although we received a recommendation that we could store our bags at a sketchy coffee stand in the middle of a park, we decided we didn’t want to start our trip with any bad travel luck; hence, we carried our bags all day. I regretted packing that third pair of shoes!

We started our tour with Cambridge University, one of the oldest universities in the world. It is organized by different colleges, each having its own set of students from different academic disciplines and also their own buildings. It was exam week so we weren’t able to tour inside the colleges, but were able to see the outside of many, such as Clare College, Trinity College, Emmanuel College, King’s College, and St. John’s College. Probably most entertaining about our Cambridge visit was the number of students running out of the classroom buildings after finishing exams, joining their friends in hugs along the street, and then toasting one another with full bottles of wine in hand.

By the end of our walk around the town, we had officially been up for about 26 hours, so we made our way to Parker’s Piece Park in Cambridge for a little rest before our bus back to our London hotel. A long day, but so glad to be here!
